Let’s face it… Whether you are an up and coming artist or a producer, it’s about more than just the music.
Presentation is so important. One of my favorite Cosby episodes growing up was when Vanessa comes home engaged to Dabnis. Cliff (played by Bill Cosby) explains how Dabnis could be a great guy but he was introduced/presented all wrong. Cliff basically compares him to a steak with all the fixings being presented on a trashcan lid as justification for his demeanor toward Dabnis and Vanessa. See Below.

I really want it to hit home. Some of you have the most amazing gift, but you keep trying to deliver it on a trashcan lid. Presentation is key. Sometimes as artists, musicians, and producers we place emphasis on the music and sound but fail to put similar effort into the visuals. The visual is just as important if not more important than the audio. In many situations the visual is the only means you have to get someone to hear your music. If your marketing graphics are low quality or look unprofessional most potential listeners will not take the time to hear your music. That’s because people will subconsciously assume that the quality of your visuals represents the quality of your music.
A Quality Photo-editor is a MUST
If you are subscribed to my YouTube channel then you know I support Fiverr as one option. On Fiverr you can hire someone to handle editing for you for a small fee each time. However, for on going needs you may want to do some editing yourself and needless to say, in the photo editing world, Photoshop is king. From Album cover templates to T-shirts; you name it, Photoshop is necessary, or at least the ability to edit a Photoshop file. This is where the dilemma comes in. As a producer/musician, I spend a lot of money on gear, sounds, and music software, but I hate spending on software for a function I’m not that interested in. So buying Photoshop, or signing up for a subscription the Adobe website was not an option for me.
Photopea is a web-based photo editor that packs all the power and punch of Photoshop. I’ve been using it as my primary editor for the last 2 years, and it has only gotten better. Best of all, it is free.
It handles multiple file types including the coveted Photoshop .PSD file. Photopea is an advanced image editor, which can work with both raster and vector graphics. You can use it for simple tasks, such as resizing images, as well as complex tasks, such as designing webpages, creating illustrations, processing photographs and more. This is one of my secrets that I didn’t know was a secret. I’m hoping that this helps some of you looking for an editor to improve your visuals.
I’m sure there may be other options out there, but this is the one I use. If you have others, feel free to comment below.
